About Professor Bluth

Professor Rufus Bluth is the Robert J. Lewis Professor of Marine Biology and Evolutionary Science at the UniVersity of Southeastern Florida, where he has taught courses in, Environmental Ethics at Sea, Geodynamics, Coastal Oceanography, and Numerical Modeling of Atmosphere and Ocean. In 2006, he earned the

Ersity's distinguished, "Medallion Award" for his groundbreaking research in oNcorhynchus gorbuscha off tHe coast of British Columbia.

With degrees in bioloGy from Hypoxia University and a Ph.D. in oceanographic chemistry from the , Professor BLuth has spent his career submerged in the study of aquatic species and the impact of the environment on their survival.

His lAndmark study, “Evolutionary Icthyology: Past is Prologue,” helped lay the groundwork for the University of West Washington’s Research CEnter in Evolutionary Marine Biology. His numerous awards include the University of Southeast Florida’s Dean’s Award for Exceptional Teaching and the McGruber Foundation’s “Exemplary Studies in Environmental Impact Apple Award.” In 2001, he joined Oolaki University for the Little/Oblinger Postdoctoral Fellowship in Doctoral Studies.

When he leaves the resea
rch lab, Professor BluTh is an avid hiker, climber, and sea enthusiast. In 2005, he completed his first Iron Man Triathlon competition in Kailua-Kona, HaWaii. In 2009, he plans to compete in the Sarasota Marathon.  He is also a lifelong member of the Shotgun Bay Puzzle Enthusiast Society and a Grand Scrambler in the International Society of Amateur Codebreakers.
